Races #
Dwarf #
Dwarves are a hardy race of tireless, driven craftsman and warriors. The majority of them live in large communities carved deep into the sides of mountains, but they are known to live in small family homes in hills as well. They are famously tough (and bearded), and are far more powerfully built than elves (though they stand shorter than most humans).

Elf #
Elves are fair, long-lived beings who live in relative harmony with the natural world. They are shorter and slighter of build than humans, with pointed ears and a total absence of facial hair. They are most commonly found living in the deep forest, but elves make their homes throughout the world, almost exclusively in locations that are far from other large settlements of any kind. There are even rumors of elves that live in the Underdark, though many dismiss these claims as mere tales. Elves have a strong cultural magical tradition, and due to their age and racial cohesion, produce the most powerful and accomplished Adepts in the world, alongside humans.

Gnome #
Gnomes are small humanoids, with an everage height of about 4 feet. Like elves, they are slight with pointed ears, but like dwarves, they favor beards and prefer to live underground, although the extent of their largest structures (and therefore their communities) is quite limited compared to Dwarves. Low Magic is more common amongst Gnomes than perhaps any other race, and like the elves, they have a strong cultural tradition of magic that provides more opportunities for study and advancement than other races have access to.

Half-Orc #
Half-orcs are large, powerful humanoids who are rarely the result of loving unions. Wherever they grow up, they grow up fighting, and they tend to experience more than their fair share of hostility and isolation throughout their lives. In spite of their often-beastial appearances, they are as intelligent as any of the other races.

Halfling #
Halflings, like Gnomes, are tiny humanoids, with the tallest males rarely reaching 4 feet. Their appearance is reminiscent of small elves, insofar as they have pointed ears and lack facial hair. They tend to live longer than humans, though nowhere near as long as elves. They are typically lithe and active, spending their days outdoors and engaging in work and sport in equal measure. Halfling communities are modest and pastoral as a rule, and they have more of a predisposition to wandering than perhaps any race other than humans.

Human #
Humans are tall, dynamic beings with relatively short lifespans, and the strongest innate ambition and lust for power of any race. They are intensely social, both amongst their own kind as well as with other races, and have few reservations about romantic entanglements with non-humans as well. Humans are driven to wander and explore, and are the most common race that one might encounter on the open road. They are particularly enamoured of magic, because it is a quick path to power for a people that burn brightly, but briefly.
