Low Magic

Low Magic #

Low Magic is accessible to all Adepts, and unless otherwise noted, there are few retrictions on its use. DMs are free to constrain misuse. All Low Magic is Spontaneous, and Low Magic does not cost SP (with the exception of Invocation).

Alarm #

Once per day, the Adept can identify a sphere or hemisphere up to 10 feet in diameter and set an Alarm on it. The Adept will know instantly if this boundary is crossed by anyone other than themselves, and they will be woken up if they are sleeping when this happens.

Arcane Grasp #

The Adept can manipulate the position and orientation of small, lightweight objects at a distance - up to 3 lb, up to 5 feet per second, up to 30 feet away. The spell will not endure active opposition or obstacles of any kind. The path of the object must be in the caster’s line-of-sight at all times.

Detect Magic #

The Adept feels the presence of magic directionally, can hear magical humming that varies in pitch and intensity depending on its magnitude, and can clearly see magic that is in their line-of-sight or behind minimal cover. This ability is not always-on; it requires concentration. The intensity of these sensations diminishes rapidly with distance, and are eliminated entirely at 30 feet.

Ignition #

A small flame can be brought into existence for the duration of the Adept’s sustained focus, but it is extinguished the moment that this concentration is broken. The flame is real and will ignite fuel if it is present.

Invocation #

Anyone can read the words inscribed on a magic scroll if they are literate in the language that the words were written in, but only an Adept can cast the spell by reciting those words. The recitation can be little more than a whisper, but it must be uttered aloud. Unlike other Low Magic, Invocation costs 1 SP (regardless of the scroll being cast).

Light #

A point of light can be brought into existance at a location of the Adept’s choosing anywhere within 10 feet, and can be moved around within that sphere at will. The light can be maintained more or less indefinitely and more or less effortlessly under normal conditions, but it can not be maintained under adversarial conditions unless the Adept chooses to remain focused on manifesting the light, rather than dealing with whatever is threatening them.

Simple Illusion #

A trivial illusion can be brought into existence. This illusion may have visual, auditory, or even tactile qualities, but it will always reveal itself to be a glamour if it is permitted anything more than a cursory inspection. The illusion exists as long as the Adept remains focused on its continued presentation. Uses include entertainment, demonstration, and brief/casual disguise.

Speak With Animals #

Once per day, the Adept can converse briefly with animals, about the topics that animals are conversant in (food, danger, curious things), with all the nuance and depth that they’re capable of (almost none), and only if they’re willing to talk.

Whisper #

The Adept can whisper a short message that a willing recipient within 120 feet can hear. No one else can hear the message, no matter how close to the recipient they are.
